Kansas Enlistments, 1861-1865
This is an index to the enlistment papers of Kansas Volunteer Regiments, 1861-1865, which are housed in the Kansas State Archives. The enlistment papers may contain the following information on a soldier: name, date, and place of birth, date and place enlisted, date and place mustered into service, height, weight, complexion, eye color, signature, and occasionally a medical report.
There are six boxes of approximately 3000 enlistment papers. They are arranged by regiment and company and then alphabetically by surname. Boxes 1-5 contain enlistsments for volunteer regiments for 1861-1865. The 6th box contains enlistments for the 19th Kansas Cavalry.
The index for the Kansas Volunteer Regiments gives the name of the soldier as it appears in the Adjutant General's (AGO) report, rank, regiment, and company. There are some enlistment papers for soldiers who do not appear in the AGO report.

“A STATEMENT of the names of all the pensioners for
services during the revolutionary war, pensioned under the act
of Congress of the 18th March, 1818, whose names were struck off by virtue
of the act of 1st May, 1820, specifying those restored to pensions by the
act of 1st March, 1823, or since again pensioned under the act of 15th May,
1828, the act of June 7, 1832, or any other act of Congress subsequent to
that of the 1st May, 1820, prepared in conformity with a resolution of the
House of Representatives of the United States of the 17th December, 1835.”
